INTERACTIVE WAYFINDING
CLIENT: The Music Center (TMC)
LOCATION: (Downtown) Los Angeles, CA
In 2019 The Music Center, one of the largest performing art centers in the United States, partnered with Beaudry Interactive, an award winning experiential design firm, to solve the problem of how to welcome guests to the renovated Music Center Plaza without a staff presence. My team and I helped create The Plaza Interactive Wayfinding Screens Located in the Lisa Specht Welcome Center.

USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN PROCESS
CONCEPT DESIGN & REACH STUDY
1. Designing for a wide range of audiences was the biggest design challenge for the interactive screens. We wanted to make sure that the placement and positioning of the physical touch screens were optimized to be operated by everyone comfortably and easy to use.

2. The UX design was inspired by The Music Center’s rich visual brand. The final design successfully extends TMC’s brand identity into this new communication tool through careful study of TMC’s existing tool kits, from the brand’s marketing and communication collateral to the physical design language of the historic buildings, lobbies, and architectural details found throughout the campus and surrounding environments.

3. Prototyping trough concept animatics like this one above, I proposed a unique UI based on scrolling screens and demonstrate how visitors of all heights can explore the multiple pathways – portals – into The Music Center’s past, present, and future, while engaging TMC’s diverse audience of all ages, languages and cultures.
FINAL DESIGN & ANIMATION
4. The final design allows for two people to comfortably operate one screen each, while showcasing rotating marketing content in the middle column. There is a language button for Spanish translation and all content is updated via custom CMS.
UI DESIGN DETAILS
There are 5 portals for exploration. Exploring the portals of the interactive wayfinding screens, guests learn about the storied past, present, and future of The Music Center and the vibrant community of artists TMC brings together from all over the globe. The screens celebrate TMC’s mission to deepen the cultural lives of Angelenos.
